Despite our best intentions with street frontages

Planners can force developers to put parking in the back, build closer to the road, require a certain percentage of fenestration, and even make them provide doors and walkways that are accessible from the street frontage, all to encourage walkability.

However, we can’t force them to be used. More often than not, the tenant’s main entrance will still be from the side where the vehicles are parked.

It’s just too bad we can’t build new Main Streets anymore. Most new developments are just strip malls parading as urbanism.
